We posed the following three questions to each member of our team, and here are their responses!
- What inspired you to join/start MMI and how does your role contribute to the company’s mission?
- What are your favorite hobbies or activities that you engage in during your free time?
- What’s your favorite local business that you’ve discovered through our platform, and why do you love it?
Cherie Edilson: Founder and CEO
- I was inspired to start MMI because I deeply believe in the vital role small businesses play in shaping our communities. As the CEO, my role is focused on fostering connections with community partners and other stakeholders, building a team, determining future product iterations, and contributing to our mission of preserving the unique essence of small businesses.
- As a busy mom of four, my free time is limited. However, as corny as it sounds, I find immense joy in immersing myself in my business. Beyond that, I dedicate time to coaching my kids’ sports teams, volunteering with my children’s schools and activities, and cherishing moments with friends and family.
- While I can’t pick a definite favorite, I’m biased towards Katy’s Kitchen on Shop Iowa. Not only do her items look amazing, but they actually taste even better than they look (hard to believe, but you’ll have to try for yourself to find out). I’ve been a fan of Katy’s baking since I was a kid (she just so happens to be my sister), and watching her business grow alongside ours has been really fun.
Olivia Snyder: Business Support Manager
- Being a part of a small team and helping out local small businesses is a big reason I wanted to join MMI. As a Business Support Manager knowing that I am helping small businesses in their success gives me so much joy!
- I love spending time outside (when it’s nice out) taking my dogs for walks on different trails around the Des Moines area. My Fiance and I also love to try new foods and restaurants as we are huge foodies!
- A business that has some really great products is Little Goat Soap on Shop North Dakota. They are a mother-daughter run business and raise their own goats and use that milk to hand-make their products. I love supporting small businesses that have ingredients that are handmade and I know where it’s coming from.
Ann Schneider: Business Development Manager
- I was impressed with Member Marketplace’s mission to help residents in communities across the US, search, shop and buy from small businesses, affecting a direct impact on those local economies. Additionally, giving small businesses the guidance and tools they need to start and grow a thriving online e-commerce business. I am passionate about solving problems and providing solutions. Member Marketplace was the perfect fit for my background and my desire to promote real change with shop/buy local initiatives, providing a way for consumers to vote with their wallet.
- Being with my family and friends. Visiting my parents on their farm. Taking my English Cream Retriever and Great Pyrenees to the dog park. Listening to audiobooks. Love eating out. Proud baseball mom!
- Callista Rose! The clothes are super cute, great quality and they have fast shipping.
Carly Nelson: Outreach and Engagement Manager
- I joined Member Marketplace, Inc. during the heart of the pandemic, drawn by a shared commitment to supporting small businesses in a challenging time. Encouraged by Cherie, my friend and former boss in college, I saw an opportunity to contribute to a community-driven initiative that aligned with my passion for helping people and communities. Over the years, my role has evolved, but the central goal has remained constant – to empower small businesses through education and support on our marketplaces.
- In my free time, I cherish moments with my amazing husband and our two lively girls, aged 4 and 6. Health and fitness are a big part of my lifestyle, and I channel this passion by teaching various group exercise classes. I also find joy in exploring new places, whether it’s hiking, snorkeling, or supporting new restaurants, breweries or wineries. My go-to for relaxation = A glass of red wine paired with a captivating documentary or binge-worthy show.
- I’ve discovered many gems across all of our marketplaces, making it tough to pick just one! However, if I had to choose, I’d say Iowa Lavender on Shop Iowa stands out. Their lavender salve is a personal favorite, and the exceptional customer service with handwritten notes and delightful free samples makes the experience truly special!
Madelyn Houser Webb
- Joining MMI felt like finding my creative home. I’m all about strategy, social media, and marketing, and MMI lets me blend those passions seamlessly. It’s not just a job; it’s a chance to weave my creative side with my sales side, all while cheering on small businesses.
- I cherish moments with my family, which includes my husband, our two sons (15 and 3), and our adorable pup. Traveling and exploring new places is a shared passion, and we thrive on trying new experiences together. Sports also play a significant role in our lives, especially as we travel to support our oldest during competitions. Another fun family activity is creating videos for TikTok, capturing our shared moments and spreading some joy.
- I love the uniqueness of Dirt Road Jewelry on our Santa Fe Marketplace. They have so many gorgeous pieces for all types of occasions.
